YMCA of Martha’s Vineyard
Expansion and Renovation

FM is collaborating with the YMCA of Martha’s Vineyard on a transformative project to double the size of their current facility. This expansion includes the addition of a state-of-the-art field house, an indoor walking track, dedicated fitness studios, and an enhanced wellness center. This significant upgrade aims to provide the community with improved recreational and wellness opportunities, fostering a healthier and more active lifestyle for the residents of Martha’s Vineyard.

A key component of this project is the transition of the YMCA from a fossil fuel-based heating system to a fully electric facility. We are exploring advanced air and geothermal heat pump technologies to achieve this, aiming to create a more sustainable and energy-efficient environment.

The project also entails substantial renovations to the existing natatorium. This includes the complete reconstruction of the exterior walls, roof envelope, and HVAC systems. Currently, the pool operates as a single high-temperature water body, which negatively impacts both lap swimming and warm-water user comfort, while also leading to high energy consumption, water evaporation, and chemical use. To address these issues, FM is providing specialized aquatic consulting services. Our goal is to enhance pool programming, improve operational efficiency, and optimize the overall user experience.

By expanding and modernizing the YMCA facility, FM is committed to supporting the YMCA’s mission of promoting youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. This project will not only benefit the YMCA but also greatly enhance the quality of life for the entire Martha’s Vineyard community.
