UMass Amherst Thompson Tower
Interior Renovations

Renovations to UMass Amherst’s Thompson Tower third, fourth, and tenth floors. The project seeks to provide effective and flexible meeting and hub spaces for its academic departments. Due to recent departmental changes, renovations will reorganize Sociology to the upper floors of the tower and Political Science below. The Student Hubs will serve as a “landing space” for the Political Science and Sociology students. These Hubs will provide areas for students to gather, collaborate, and visit with University staff.

The fourth floor component will feature a large conference room for Political Science. This floor is set to be completed mid-fall to provide meeting space for faculty and students, and will additionally host graduate classes in the Spring Semester.

Construction will be complete for the Fall 2018 semester on two student lounges for the Political Science and Sociology departments. These hub spaces will have a fresh, modern, and comfortable feel while remaining respectful of the building’s midcentury style.
