Saratoga County Airport
New Terminal and Aircraft Hangar
The newly constructed General Aviation terminal in Saratoga County is a $29 million investment designed to blend modern functionality with the unique architectural heritage of the region. This state-of-the-art facility emphasizes user comfort, community amenities, and operational efficiency, while its design choices pay homage to the local character and natural landscape.
Key Features:
User-Focused Amenities: The terminal includes two spacious waiting areas, thoughtfully designed to offer comfort and accessibility. Public spaces open onto a landscaped courtyard and rolling berms of local plantings, creating a seamless indoor-outdoor experience for passengers and community visitors. A multimedia conference room, rental car lease space, and restaurant ensure convenience for guests and the surrounding community. The 20,000 square foot connected hangar space and pilot lounge cater to various aviation needs, reflecting a comprehensive approach to FBO functionality.
Architectural Design: The exterior design features a wrap-around porch that reinterprets the classic Adirondack lodge and Victorian styles with a contemporary twist. This choice not only provides aesthetic appeal but also offers practical shelter and space for relaxation. The building’s form and detailing draw inspiration from Saratoga’s rich architectural history, emphasizing a blend of traditional and modern elements. The use of natural materials such as wood tree columns and locally quarried slate shingles strengthens the building’s connection to its surroundings and reflects the local geology.
Exterior Enhancements: The project transforms the exiting site, providing local vegetation habitat, a new passenger access area, and includes onsite renewables to heat and power the building. The entrance corridor and existing parking area have been redeveloped to enhance accessibility and aesthetics, and to give a lasting impression of Saratoga. Apron rehabilitation ensures a functional and welcoming environment for aircraft operations.
This project demonstrates a thoughtful integration of modern amenities and regional design, creating a terminal that serves as a gateway reflecting the charm and heritage of Saratoga County.
